Tucked along the river in Nakameguro is a truly iconic four-story Starbucks, and this one is far from your usual neighborhood café. Officially, the building is treated as a roasting facility, and you can actually watch coffee beans being roasted inside. There are also beautifully packaged, premium souvenirs you can only find here—yes, they’re pricey, but very tempting. Each floor has its own personality. The first floor is what I’d call luxury Starbucks: drinks easily run over ¥1,000, but you’re paying for the experience. This level is the real highlight—the roasting area feels like something straight out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with coffee beans moving overhead through transparent tubes. The “factory” is impossibly stylish, and even the walls are decorated with stacked mugs, making every detail visually fun. The second floor focuses on matcha, offering refined Japanese tea drinks and an afternoon-tea vibe. The third floor transforms into a bar, serving coffee-inspired cocktails as the day winds down. Finally, the fourth floor is a calm lounge space, perfect for sitting back and soaking in the atmosphere. More than just a café, this Starbucks feels like a Tokyo experience—design-driven, slightly extravagant, and endlessly fascinating. If you’re in the city, it’s absolutely worth a visit, even if it’s just to look around.
